We were provided a full VR experience by HBO and asked to edit it to reduce the playtime and remove any R-rated content (a tall-order for a WestWorld experience) so it could be shown in store installations as a promotion for WestWorld season 2.

My Role

I was the lead programmer, working with one other programmer. Most of the work revolved around editing what already existed to change what animations and dialogue lines played as well as disabling certain features to speed up play time.

Challenges

The project had a quick turnaround (~4 weeks) and some very strict security rules we had to follow since we were including footage from the then-upcoming WestWorld season 2. Technically speaking - a challenge I had to work through was to change the level streaming set up from the original project. Since a design change we were making required the player to be teleported to different levels (as if experiencing flashbacks) that were unloaded in the original experience I had to ensure that all the required levels were loaded at the appropriate times.
